Step 1: Locate the Employees Menu
From the Home Screen, press the Employees tab in the sidebar menu.
Step 2: Navigate to the Payroll Module
On the Employees, the main page, choose to Get started with payroll on the right side of the screen.
Step 3: Enter Payroll Setup Information
In the QuickBooks Payroll Module, you will need to answer some questions in order to tell your Payroll story. When unsure about a particular question, tap on the blue links on the page or the question mark in the top corner of the page.
Step 4: Add Your Employees
Now, you are all set to add your employees. Choose Add employee on the left of the screen.
Step 5: Enter Your Employee’s Withholdings
In order to begin adding your employee to payroll, you need to enter your employee’s First name, M.I., and Last name into the correct text boxes.
Step 6: Enter Your Pay Schedule
When you do this, a question will pop up that will read, How often do you pay your employee?
In order to do this, select the Enter a pay schedule button under the question.

Step 7: Enter How Much You Pay Your Employee
Now, you must answer the question: How much do you pay your employee?
In such a case, we will select an hourly price, but you can pay by salary as well.
When there are other methods you pay employees, you can add those too by choosing Add additional pay types highlighted in blue.
Tap on Done in the bottom right of the screen when you’re done.
Step 8: Enter Employee Deductions
Now, you must answer this question, Does your employee have any deductions? (Instances: retirement plans, health care)
You can choose the Pencil icon to add any deductions your employee may have listed on his or her W-4 form.

Step 9: Enter Employee Payment Method
Finally, you must answer: How do you want to pay your employee? Choose the Pencil icon under the question to click on how you want to pay your employee.
Click if you desire to pay your employee with a Paper check or with a Direct deposit (refer to our separate QuickStart video for questions and instructions on setting up Direct Deposit). Choose OK at the bottom right of the screen.
Step 10: Add Employee
And with this, the process is complete. Choose Done in the bottom right of the screen while you’re done adding your initial employee or just Contact QuickBooks online Payroll help number and we will guide you from there.
Step 11: Access Payroll
When you have added all your employees, you are all set to run payroll. In the Run Payroll Module, you require to put in a few details, mainly how many regular pay hours your employee worked and how many overtime hours your employee worked.
To enter your employee’s hours, type the correct amounts into the text boxes under their corresponding columns.
Choose Preview payroll in the bottom right of the screen.
Check everything once again, and when you are done reviewing, tap to Submit Payroll at the bottom of the screen.
Choose Print pay stubs to apply printing options for the pay-check you’ve made for your employee. You may write your paychecks manually, print them from QuickBooks, or print pay stubs if you used direct deposit.
Make sure you enter the Check Number into the text box under the column labeled “Check Number” and when you’re all set, choose Finish payroll in the bottom right of the screen.
